Introduction
January marked a period of preparation, learning, and community engagement for ClimateCare CBO as the organization laid the groundwork for the new planting season. The focus during the month was on strengthening farm readiness through shed net maintenance, seedbed preparation, and establishment of crop nurseries for key vegetables. Alongside on-farm activities, the team actively participated in important environmental and educational events, including World Wetlands Day and the International Day of Education, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to sustainability, knowledge sharing, and community empowerment. Farmer visits were also conducted to maintain close collaboration with the community and better understand their needs as the new production cycle begins.
Preparation of Shed Nets for the Next Planting Cycle

During the month of January, the team focused on preparing the shed nets in readiness for the upcoming planting season. This activity involved inspecting the net structures, repairing worn- out sections, tightening loose areas, and clearing the surroundings to create a clean and organized working environment. The preparation was necessary to ensure that the nets would provide adequate shade and protection to young crops against excessive sunlight, strong winds, and pests. This effort is expected to improve seedling survival rates and create a favorable microclimate for early plant growth.
Seedbed Preparation

Seedbed preparation was carried out to support the establishment of strong and healthy seedlings. The process involved loosening the soil, incorporating organic matter, and leveling the beds to ensure proper drainage and moisture retention. Attention was given to soil fertility and structure to promote uniform germination. These well-prepared seedbeds will play a key role in ensuring a successful planting cycle by providing a strong foundation for crop development.
Establishment of Crop Nurseries

Nurseries were established for kales, tomatoes, spinach, and mchicha. Seeds were carefully sown in the prepared nursery beds and regularly watered to maintain adequate moisture for germination. The team monitored the nurseries closely to ensure healthy growth and to protect the seedlings from pests and diseases.

The nurseries will supply seedlings for the next phase of transplanting.
Participation in World Wetlands Day

The organization attended the World Wetlands Day event as part of its commitment to environmental conservation and climate awareness. The event provided an opportunity to learn about the importance of wetlands in supporting ecosystems, water conservation, and sustainable land use. Participation strengthened knowledge on environmental protection and conservation.
Attendance of the International Day of Education

ClimateCare CBO also took part in activities marking the International Day of Education. The event highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing, capacity building, and continuous learning in empowering communities. Participation provided an opportunity to engage with stakeholders and emphasize the role of education in promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and youth empowerment within the community.
Farmer Visits and Community Engagement

Field visits were conducted to engage with several farmers within the community. The purpose of these visits was to check on their ongoing farming activities, understand the challenges they are facing, and offer guidance where necessary. The interactions helped strengthen relationships between the organization and farmers, encouraged knowledge sharing, and provided insights into areas where additional support and training may be required.
Conclusion
January was largely a preparatory and engagement-focused month. The activities carried out laid a strong foundation for the upcoming planting season, with well-prepared seedbeds, established nurseries, and ready shed nets. Community engagement, participation in environmental events, and involvement in education-focused activities further reinforced ClimateCare CBO’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, learning, and community development.
