Introduction
February 2025 was a dynamic and impactful month for ClimateCare CBO as we advanced our mission to empower communities, promote education, and foster sustainable agricultural practices. Through strategic collaborations and community-driven initiatives, we addressed critical issues such as Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the intersection of poverty and education, and climate-smart agriculture. This report highlights our key activities,
achievements, challenges, and plans moving forward.
1. Technical Working Group Community Outreach on SGBV Awareness
In collaboration with the International Justice Mission (IJM), ClimateCare CBO conducted a community outreach program focused on raising awareness about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The session aimed to:
∙ Educate participants on the nature and impact of SGBV.
∙ Clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Technical Working Group in addressing SGBV. ∙ Highlight available reporting mechanisms for survivors.
The engagement equipped community members with essential knowledge to recognize, prevent, and respond to SGBV, fostering stronger support systems and resilience within the community.
2. Research on the Effects of Poverty on Education
ClimateCare CBO in collaboration with the University of Nairobi Student Council did a research to investigate the effects of poverty on education in Kinango. Key activities included:
∙ Data Collection: Administered questionnaires across three schools to identify educational barriers linked to financial constraints.
∙ Support Distribution: Provided learning materials to pupils and dignity towels to girls to improve menstrual hygiene management and school attendance.
∙ Innovative Discovery: Observed a student-led initiative in one school where kitchen gardens were established to generate income for school supplies (e.g., books). In response, ClimateCare CBO pledged to support this effort by offering training and planting materials.
This collaboration underscored the profound link between poverty and educational outcomes while showcasing community ingenuity in overcoming challenges.
3. Establishment of Shed Nets for Agricultural Training
Under the Feathers of Hope (FOH) initiative, ClimateCare CBO installed shed nets to serve as demonstration plots for climate-smart agriculture. These plots will:
∙ Facilitate hands-on training for community members on sustainable farming techniques.
∙ Promote improved agricultural practices to enhance food security and economic stability.
Conclusion
February 2025 marked a month of meaningful progress for ClimateCare CBO, characterized by impactful outreach, educational support, and advancements in sustainable agriculture. Our collaborations with IJM, the University of Nairobi Student Council, and local communities have laid a strong foundation for continued growth. Moving forward, we are committed to addressing challenges, scaling our interventions, and driving transformative change for vulnerable populations in Kinango Community.
