Monthly Report Update: June & July 2024

Introduction

This report highlights the key activities undertaken by Climate Care during June and July. Our initiatives focused on practical agricultural training, community outreach, and environmental sustainability campaigns.

1.  Farm Training at Mtopanga Organic Farm Overview

In June and July, we participated in farm training sessions at the Mtopanga Organic Farm. This farm model training covered:

Purpose

The aim of this training was to equip participants with practical farming skills that could be implemented in Kinango for the Feathers of Hope (FOH) project and to improve local agricultural practices.

Activities

  • Hands-On Training: Participants engaged in hands-on activities to gain practical experience in various farming techniques, such as preparing compost.

  • Community Outreach: As part of our training at Haller, we also participated in a community outreach program where we provided essential treatment for common diseases, ensuring the well- being of the local population. Additionally, we visited a local school to educate the students on proper hand washing techniques and emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices. This initiative aimed to instill lifelong healthy habits in the young minds and reduce the spread of illnesses within the community. Furthermore, we had the opportunity to visit various projects undertaken by Haller, including the construction of water pans, which have significantly improved water accessibility and management in the area. Our experience highlighted the impactful work being done and underscored the importance of health education and sustainable resource management in fostering community development.

2.  Tree Planting Campaign: “Planting Hope against SGBV – 1000 Trees Campaign” Overview

This campaign aimed to address the high incidence of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Kinango while promoting environmental sustainability through tree planting.

Key Activities

  • Tree Planting: We planted 500 tree seedlings across three schools:

  • SGBV Awareness Talks: Conducted educational sessions on SGBV and environmental sustainability

Impact

  • Raised awareness about SGBV among youths.
    • Promoted environmental sustainability through tree planting.
    • Engaged over 1,000 students in discussions about SGBV and climate change.

3.  World Environment Day Celebration

Overview

To celebrate World Environment Day, we organized a tree planting event at Kinango secondary school.

Activities

  • Tree Planting: Planted trees at Kinango secondary School to enhance the school’s green cover and promote environmental stewardship.

4.  Community Dialogue on Gender Inclusivity and Religious Harmony

Overview

Members of the community in Kinango Sub County organized a dialogue focused on gender inclusivity and religious harmony. Climate Care was invited to speak at the event and took the opportunity to discuss how climate change initiatives can foster community unity and religious harmony.

    • Gender Inclusivity: Emphasized the importance of including all gender groups in community development activities without discrimination.

Conclusion

June and July were productive months for Climate Care and the Kinango community. Through farm training, community outreach, tree planting campaigns, and community dialogues, we made significant strides in addressing SGBV, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering community unity in Kinango. We look forward to continuing these efforts and expanding our impact in the coming months.
